Meet Susie Rokosch, LCSW

Taking the first step toward seeking support is a brave decision, and I’m glad you’re here. When I was 17 years old, I was in a car accident that ultimately shaped the course of my life. By 29 I was facing spinal surgery followed by some major medical complications. Though I had been practicing social work since 25, I shifted gears in my early 30’s looking for a solution to manage chronic pain. I found yoga as part of this search, and once my physical health was under control again, I realized how much yoga and mindfulness (both on and off the mat) was helping me in all other areas of my life.

I immersed myself in understanding trauma and the physical body, starting with teaching yoga in correctional settings, treatment facilities, homeless shelters, and beyond. This work deepened my mind-body connection and enhanced my understanding of how trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, and depression affect our neural networks and disrupt the central nervous system's ability to regulate optimally. These physiological changes can lead to a range of issues, including hormonal imbalances, anger management challenges, impulse control difficulties, and intrusive thoughts. When I returned to social work and counseling, I integrated this knowledge into my practice, where it has become a cornerstone.

As a lifelong learner, I stay current with the latest research and evidence-based treatment modalities. I am particularly enthusiastic about the resurgence of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the mental health field and have personally experienced healing and growth through these approaches. While psychedelic-assisted therapy may not be suitable for everyone, I am open to exploring this option with those interested through Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and/or Psychedelic Integration Therapy.

I view therapy as a collaborative process and am committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you can engage in meaningful self-exploration and healing. Establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is essential, and I am dedicated to working with individuals who are committed to their own recovery and motivated for change. I enjoy supporting those impacted by trauma, as well as individuals actively seeking to understand themselves better, heal from past experiences, and manage chronic stress and anxiety. My goal is to help you find meaning and joy in everyday life. Recognizing that the therapeutic journey is unique for each person, we will start from wherever you are and move forward at your own pace. I look forward to the opportunity to work together!

Everyone’s personal story and healing journey is going to look and feel a little bit different. I believe in treating everyone with respect, compassion, and empathy. We will work together to tailor our sessions to meet your unique and specific circumstances and goals.

Types of Therapy

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a powerful tool for addressing and healing from past traumatic experiences or distressing memories. EMDR is particularly effective for those dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, and depression. We can integrate EMDR with other therapeutic modalities to create a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan.

  • My approach is grounded in mind-body techniques, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a deeper mind-body connection. Trauma can significantly disrupt the central nervous system, and understanding how to recognize and re-regulate your unique trauma responses is crucial in the therapeutic journey. By addressing these disruptions, we can enhance your overall emotional resilience and support effective trauma recovery.

  • As adults, our relationships can be deeply influenced by early attachment wounds. If you're experiencing challenges in maintaining healthy relationships, we can explore these issues through the lens of attachment theory to better understand your attachment style and relational patterns. This approach can help you develop greater stability and security in your key relationships. Additionally, we can focus on enhancing your communication skills and boundary setting to foster more fulfilling and balanced connections.

  • To me, mindfulness is an expansive concept that encompasses a range of practices designed to address the challenges of our fast-paced, overstimulated world. Many of us experience anxiety, exhaustion, and cognitive overload. Learning and integrating mindfulness-based practices can help you slow down, recharge, and "practice the pause." These techniques are essential for breaking cycles of overthinking, rumination, and anxious thought patterns, allowing for greater mental clarity and emotional balance.

  • Having personally experienced the profound effects of trauma, I approach our work together with a trauma-informed perspective. No matter where you are in your healing journey, you will be met with empathy, compassion, and respect. My goal is to create a supportive environment that acknowledges your unique experiences and fosters trust and safety throughout the therapeutic process.

  • Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, or KAP, is a form of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy that combines safe, legal ketamine treatment and dedicated psychotherapy sessions. KAP addresses the root causes of depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions for positive, safe, and longer lasting clinical outcomes.

  • Susie’s Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher Training program was engaging, well organized, pragmatic, and immensely informative. The approaches and concepts that she shared are invaluable to me as a yoga teacher, AND as part of my daily life. I feel far more secure in my ability to identify trauma in an individual and to find the best manner in which to support a person in his/ her healing journey.

  • Susie never makes me feel weird for any feelings I share. She normalizes and validates my experiences and has given me so many tools to use to help me manage and regulate my emotions and responses. I feel like we are building each week vs. re-starting every session.

  • I haven't met with Susie in a few months yet she has reached out to check in with me. This is so appreciated! Just knowing she has checked in has been huge for me. It's very comforting to know someone is concerned about me.

  • I started practicing box breathing at night, and I am now able to really quiet my mind and get to sleep. This practice is now part of my evening routine, and I even look forward to it. I started turning the TV off while I’m breathing because I feel like it really helps me get even more present and relaxed
